Story of Peak to Peak Dental Hygiene
Our mobile dental hygiene clinic is a locally owned and woman-owned business. We have decades of experience in dentistry and dental hygiene in the United States and abroad. We have seen that access to good dental prophylaxis (preventative dental hygiene care) and oral health education can make a real difference in quality of life and health. To that end, we want to make oral health easier by bringing quality dental hygiene to some of Colorado's out-of-the-way places.
Our Beginnings
The vision for Peak to Peak Dental Hygiene as a mobile dental hygiene clinic was first inspired when Peak to Peak's founder, Staci Coberly, traveled to Central America to do service work. At that time, Staci had already been practicing dental hygiene for quite a few years. She saw that people living in rural towns benefitted tremendously from even simple and basic dental hygiene and oral health education. When Staci returned home, she realized that the same need exists here in the United States and particularly in the rural mountain west. Read more about Staci's inspiration and the story of the Peak to Peak Dental Hygiene rig on the About Us page. This mobile dental hygiene clinic is a labor of love with a big vision to support the health of our local communities. We hope you'll join in by taking advantage of our services!
Have Dental Hygiene Clinic, Will Travel
The tools and technology we use for dental care continue to evolve. We are excited that we are able to use top-of-the-line equipment even in our compact mobile clinic. In our ambulance-turned-overlanding adventure craft-turned mobile dental hygiene clinic, we are able to offer all the services you can expect from a regular dental hygiene office...with the added perk of being in a unique and pleasant location. For example, we offer you dental care creek side in Salida under the shade of big old willow tree. Because we live in such a spectacular place, we're able to bring dental hygiene to you in pleasant and convenient places closer to you than ever.
Building Relationships, Building Health
Peak to Peak Dental Hygiene was born from inspiration to be of service and to enhance the health of our communities. Its our daily practice to strive for excellence in all aspects of our business - and all aspects of life. We are continually learning, and listening to find out how we can best be of service. We want you to know about how to take care of your teeth, gums, and dental health, and how that connects to the health of your whole body. We want you to be empowered to take care of yourself, and to be your teammate in maintaining the highest level of oral health.

The patients are my favorite part of dental hygiene. I love building relationships and seeing families grow, hearing about vacations, building personal relationships throughout a lifetime with my patients. I love to watch kids grow up and be part of people’s lives.
- Staci Coberly, Peak to Peak Dental Hygiene Founder

Important Things to Know About Dental HygieneDental hygiene is one of the most impactful and important things you can learn about and practice to support your overall health throughout the course of your life. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about dental and oral hygiene. What do dental hygienists do? Dental hygienists are the defenders of the gum and the bone! While the dentist takes care of the structure of the teeth themselves, the hygienist is in charge of keeping the foundation healthy through prevention of gum disease. Gum disease is linked to heart disease, so we should think about dental hygiene as a full-body treatment. What is oral hygiene? Oral hygiene is all the things you do to maintain healthy gums, teeth, and bone levels in your face and jaw. To maintain healthy gums and teeth, you learn home practices, like brushing your teeth and flossing. Oral hygiene includes different adjuncts like an electric toothbrush, a water flosser (aka water pik), a rubber tip stimulator, proxy brushes, mouth rinses, oil pulling, and tongue scraping. What are the most important oral hygiene practices?
It's always better to maintain good dental health and stay ahead as opposed to playing catch-up with periodontal disease! How does dental hygiene affect overall health? Our body is made up of multiple systems: our digestive system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, etc. The mouth is the entrance to the body. What you put in your mouth and how well you take care of your mouth can affect other areas of the body in entirety. Harmful bacteria can accumulate in the mouth and can eventually get into the bloodstream, becoming a systemic and serious contributor to major health problems. Having a healthy mouth means healthy saliva and strong teeth. Digestion begins in the mouth. Being ablet to chew your food thoroughly aids with digestion, which leads to better absorption of nutrients. Research is increasingly showing how important the health of the oral microbiome (the ecosystem of microorganisms like bacteria) is to brain health, heart health, and intestinal/digestive health. Poor dental hygiene can lead to…
Can dental hygiene affect sinuses? Usually there is not a direct correlation between sinus trouble and dental/oral hygiene, even though the sinuses are close to the mouth. You might feel like you have a toothache, and it could be sinus congestion or infection, not affecting your teeth. In this case, we would do an exam with an X-ray to see if there is any indication of a tooth abscess. Most X-rays reveal the sinus membrane. If this membrane is lying close to the roots of the upper teeth, the pressure of inflamed sinuses can make it feel like a toothache. But this doesn't have anything to do with dental hygiene per se. Dental hygiene with Invisalign Straightening of teeth can make dental hygiene easier, because the straighter your teeth are, the easier they are to clean. Invisalign trays should be cleaned with soap and water, and you should continue your full oral hygiene routine, including brushing and flossing. Dental hygiene with braces When you have braces, it's sometimes better to schedule more frequent visits to the hygienist because it is harder to make sure your teeth are getting fully clean with your home practices. Cleaning by your hygienist can help to prevent decalcification of your teeth. Decalcification (white, chalky spots of weakened enamel on your teeth) can develop if plaque is not adequately or frequently removed from your teeth. Decalcification can be fixed with fillings, or silver diamine flouride (SDF), but SDF turns the teeth black. Dental hygiene and mental health Smiling is huge. When you feel good about smiling, and you're taking care of your teeth, your body, and yourself, it helps with mental stability and confidence. At Peak to Peak Dental Hygiene, we want to help you keep you smiling all life long! Dental hygiene and pregnancy It's very important to maintain good oral health during pregnancy because of bacteria. Periodontal disease, which is caused by harmful bacteria in the mouth, is linked to low birth weight and premature deliveries. Some women can develop gingivitis (inflammation in the gums) due to hormones during pregnancy, not necessarily due to a build-up of plaque. If you are experiencing bleeding of your gums during pregnancy, more frequent cleaning (every 3-4 months) is recommended. |
